Long Caye is a tropical island made of white sand beds and coconut trees; A spectacle for the eye for its consuming natural beauty. This mothering island located 15 minutes off the coast of Belize, is now home to various forms of wildlife such as sea turtles, who nest on the edge of the property line, and hermit crabs, who cover the beach by night in search of coco plums and coconuts ( a survivor’s delicacy).
The island itself is an artwork carved by time, though changing, has never fully evolved. It remains, much like the rest of the country and the main lodge, The Historic Belize River Lodge in the sense its been captured still, preserving the true essence of life in its balance. Lasting memories, over the years have been created for the guests who have made home on the island during their stay. Taking with them, when they leave tales of experiences lifetimes have only come to tell.
On this tropical Oasis, days and nights seem to blend as the reality of time escapes. The rising sun, greeting peacefully, marks day’s beginnings, and Frigate birds soaring in, looking for last chance of a days catch, marks day’s end. The thought often crosses the mind, ” how has life strayed so far from the basics of our time”; and yet the island reminds you of this, discretely, gently, and often with ease, that life happens everyday and all around us.
The sand has seen all walks of life and has become a playground for all ages. The beach house is home to stories of fishermen’s first catch, and exciting new tales. At night, Campfires, a place of exchange and laughter, rests in bliss underneath millions of twinkling stars.
As the shore washes clean the day by the waves that crash against its grain, and in all the island’s happening, the feeling of the island remains the same, a fisherman’s place of stay
