On Sunday, February 16th, Mike Heusner was honored by the Belize Audubon Society (BAS) by being awarded the James A Waight Award, which is given to people who are dedicated to the environmental community of Belize and who help to maintain that essential balance between our environment, our people and the development of our country, Belize.
Mike is a member National Association of Specialty and Interpretive Guides (NASIG). Mike has been a member of the Belize Audubon Society since1971 and has held many offices in BAS, and first vice president for the past several years. He has also been a part of many various environmental and tourism committees and boards, including the Fisheries Advisory Board, and was instrumental in helping get the Catch and Release law passed in 2009 to protect Bonefish, Permit & Tarpon.
Marguerite and her niece, Deborah, were present to cheer Mike on when he received this prestigious award. Along with Mike; Rudy Burgos, Lascelle Tillet, Dr. Judy Lumb, also had the wonderful honor of receiving BAS’s James A Waight Award. Lydia Waight and Meg Craig received the BAS Lifetime Award. Mike is truly honored and stood in great company with the people who loved Belize and have put Belize above all else. This is an award that is truly one worth blowing our horn about.
