The Belize River Lodge is not just a fly fishing destination.
Take your spin rod and reel and take advantage of opportunities not available if you strictly use a fly rod.
During my last visit, in less than ideal conditions, I had a Grand Slam using a spinning rod. I recommend Shimano 3000 and 4000 series Stella spinning reels. Spool the 3000 with 20# Spiderwire Ultracast Invisibraid for bonefish and the 4000 with 30-40# braid for juvenile tarpon and snook.
If you are lucky enough to have Jose give you one of his hand tied bonefish jigs you can tie it directly to the 20# braid. I recommend a 50# fluorocarbon leader with the heavier braid.
I had good success casting a #3 Reflecto spoon for tarpon and snook. I also recommend the Fishskin jigs in white and yellow for snook around the mangroves. Rapala Skitterwalk and Twitch Rap are great topwater plugs as well as Mirrolure She Dog. I like black/chrome and chartreuse/silver.
