Marguerite’s grandfather, Rt Reverend Robert William Cleghorn, O.B.E. JP was many things to British Honduras; Baptist Minister, Chairman of the Belize Town Board (mayor), he was an avid cyclist and so much more.
Our family grew up with many stories told by Marguerite’s mother, Henrietta “Rita” Jones; Gran or Mrs. Jones to many. Her door was always open and she told wonderful stories of being a little girl with “mama and papa” and traveling by pitpan up and down the Belize River missioning to all. If of interest, here is a link to Rev Cleghorn’s book “A Short History to Baptist Missionary Work in British Honduras“. It speaks of a time before, when things were simple in some things, but travel was extremely difficult. Something to think about, after being written, this book was typed by a cousin on an old Remington typewriter, no backspaces or delete, word by word tacked away. This typewriter was in our family home that was engulfed by fire in the early 2000s.
